Older Adult Fall Prevention
According to the CDC, falls are the leading cause of injuries among older adults. Falls have a significant impact on older adults, such as poor quality of life, a loss of independence, financial stress, and more. However, falls are not a normal part of aging and can be prevented. In fact, there are multiple ways to reduce your risk of falling as an older adult. Check out the rest of this page for more fall prevention information and what programs and services are available through LCHD and community organizations.
Check Your Fall Risk
Not sure if you are at risk of falling? Take the Falls Free CheckUp from the National Council on Aging to find out.
If you have any questions about the results of your checkup, discuss it with your doctor at your next appointment.
Balance and Mobility Programs
LCHD hosts Bingocize Workshops with partners within the county. Bingocize adds exercise and education to the fun game of Bingo to help participants become stronger and learn what steps they can take to reduce their risk of falling.
If you are interested in learning about the next Bingocize workshop and signing up, please contact Kierstin Jay by email or phone at (740) 755-4568.
Fall Hazard Checklist for Businesses and Agencies
While LCHD’s Fall Prevention program is geared towards preventing falls among older adults, falls can happen to anyone. Let’s make sure they do not happen at your business, agency, or organization! LCHD’s Fall Prevention program developed a Fall Hazard Checklist for businesses, agencies, and organizations to help you identify any fall hazards or missing fall prevention policies in your facility.
