Pools, Spas, Spraygrounds, Water Parks, and Beaches

LCHD licenses and inspects public swimming pools, spas, spraygrounds, and bathing beaches. Our inspections are designed to ensure safe and sanitary conditions at these facilities. We test pools for chlorine or other disinfectant levels, pH, total alkalinity, cyanuric acid, water clarity, and other parameters.

We also check facilities to ensure all equipment is operating correctly, the required safety equipment is present, and the documentation requirements are met. Summer pools are inspected monthly during the operating season, while indoor pools are checked once every 4 months throughout the year.

Bathing beaches are inspected for safety compliance, and water samples are collected and analyzed for bacteria to determine whether water quality is acceptable for swimming.

The Ohio Department of Health monitors state park beaches, and below is a link to their issued water quality advisories.

Enhanced Enforcement Program

With a proactive approach toward promoting public health and protecting the patrons of licensed public swimming pools, LCHD has developed the Enhanced Enforcement Program for its Public Swimming Pool Program. As mandated by the Ohio Administrative Code Chapter 3701-31, this program is designed to identify and bring public swimming pool facilities with critical violations that may increase an individual’s risk of acquiring a recreational water illness and those with chronic non-critical violations into compliance in the interest of safe swimming environments and public health.
